Yesterday, an email appeared in my inbox with a curious Subject line: "understudy PERICLES?" And so, the last 24 hours have been a bit of a whirl, as suddenly I'm now engaged to understudy in Berkeley Repertory Theatre's Spring production of Pericles, Prince of Tyre.
There's not much I know at this point, and I'm not sure yet what character or actor I'll be keeping my eyes on. But nonetheless, just to be asked and so soon after returning from Shakespeare & Company - it means so much to me.
My approach to understudy work will be as deliberate and focused as I like to get; as if I will actually be going on. I'll be able to attend regular rehearsals and I'll also get to have specific understudy rehearsals. I'll be able to see the show frequently and watch it's development over time. I am really excited that I'll get to meet Mark Wing-Davey and observe his work.
Here's a video promo:
More to come and share. I'm deeply gratified to have this opportunity to work with an outstanding Bay Area theatre company like Berkeley Rep.
